Hi, I’m Bronwyn
(It’s a Welsh name, pronounced bron-win)
I’m a coach, a trainer, facilitator and supervisor based in the South West of England.
All my work is about coaching – I’m either doing it, teaching it, or supporting other coaches. I’ve been coaching since 2014 and before that I had a ten year career in human resources and learning and development.
My work is about helping human-beings to navigate the complexities of life and work in the 21st century – to make change happen and feel better. I work with:
- Individuals who are looking for a coach to help them navigate their path
- Independent coaches who are looking for skill development and supervision
- Organisations who are looking for leadership coaching, well-being coaching, or development and supervision for their internal coaching team.
My philosophy
Sometimes being a human-being, on this planet, surrounded by other human beings, trying to navigate life in the 21st century, is confusing, overwhelming, anxiety inducing and crazy-making! Coaching can help us simplify, get clear about what’s really important, see what’s in the way, care less about things that don’t actually matter so much and really focus on the things that really do. Ultimately it can help us to find ways to navigate life in a way that feels right for us.
Human needs
In my experience, in order to thrive in life and in work, human-beings need a few things:
- Compassion
Sometimes we need it to be acknowledged that yes, it is tough, exhausting and crappy. - Understanding
We need to know ourselves and we need to feel seen, heard and accepted for who we are. - Listening
We need a space of our own to access our own thoughts and expertise, knowing we won’t be interrupted by someone else’s agenda.
- Structure
We need to simplify the crazy making, over-whelming complexity that can sometimes be paralysing. - Challenge and encouragement
We need someone to encourage us to stretch further than we think we can reach and to call out our BS (belief systems or bullsh*t) when required. - A sense of direction and purpose
We need to have a sense of where we are headed and stop focusing on all the things we don’t want.
Sounds simple but actually these things can be pretty rare, especially in the way we are being towards ourselves.
Handling uncertainty
Life and work in the 21st century is complex, ever-changing and uncertain. Already this will be pushing our buttons as human-beings!
You will be navigating that for yourself, while also being surrounded by other human-beings who are trying to do the same thing. Gah!
Here are some of the bummers about being human…
- We crave certainty because it makes us feel safe – yet we live in a world where very little is certain.
- We crave control because it makes us feel safe – yet we live in a world where we have very little absolute control.
- We are hard-wired to try to avoid rejection and being disliked (because – guess what – it helps us feel safe!).
- We fear loss and endings (ie change) – yet we live in a world where change is constant.
‘Safe’ uncertainty
One aim of coaching with me is to help you to discover “Safe uncertainty.”
This is where you can accept and get OK with life being uncertain and unpredictable and still feel a sense of psychological safety, agency and confidence in yourself and your ability to navigate life.
Another aim is to understand how your nervous system responds to perceived threat and stress, and the impact of this on your thinking, feeling and responses. I also can get a bit sweary sometimes and I find it often helps! In particular I find the words “f**k it” can have a powerful restorative and motivational impact!
How coaching can help
Coaching is two people working on one persons agenda.
We will look at where you are now, and where you would like to be, and aim to address the gap. Sounds simple right? Well, if it was, then you probably wouldn’t be considering coaching.
As humans we are generally not great at being able to see our own “stuff”, our blind-spots, limiting beliefs, unhelpful assumptions, unrealistic expectations. At the same time we are also the world-expert when it comes to being us.
Coaching helps us to see ourselves more clearly and make choices that are right for us. Ultimately coaching helps us make change happen and feel better about ourselves and our lives.
